Moving is hard! When leaving the house where we had resided for over 20 years, I knew I had a difficult decision to make: what to do with the 30 years’ worth of Bon Appétit magazines stacked in bookshelves?
Being surrounded by moving boxes already too numerous, I didn’t want to lug all of the magazines to our new home. Donating the magazines to the public library for resale (and fundraising) was one option. But as I went through the piles of treasured volumes, I knew I couldn’t get rid of them all. I came up with a plan.
I kept four years’ worth of my old issues: the volumes from three very busy years in my life (1986 and 1989, when my children were born and 1999, when I started working full time again) and 12 various volumes that I just loved. My goal is to cook my way through these years again. This project will give me a chance to remember times past, revisit recipes from years gone by, and remake them for our table today.
I will be sharing these recipes and experiences in the months to come.
